Sew this year's DFFW bag designed by Lina Odell

This year's bag pattern "Elin" is exclusively produced for the participants at DFFW 2023. Sew your own unique bag with just your personal touch. We love recycling, so feel free to mix freely with decor, different patterns and waste materials you have at home! The pattern description is intended to suit everyone; the curious beginner, the happy amateur or the sewing pro.

"Elin" is a modern and easily sewn bag with strong inspiration from Dalarna's skirt sacks and goes just as well with a winter coat as with a midsummer dress.
It is constructed in several parts so that the creator can easily personalize it and give it his own touch.
Sew a modern interpretation of the skirt bag that belongs to your favorite outfit or create something completely new.
The choice is free!” - Lina Odell

Sew on

Påsöm is the local name for a local, folk woolen embroidery from Floda parish in Dalarna. Since the middle of the 1800th century, the women embroidered these colorful woolen embroideries on their folk costume pieces.

The material that is sewn on is cloth and the yarn is a soft wool yarn in many different shades. During the workshop, you get to try the basics of woolen embroidery on a stitched piece of cloth.

Material cost: Approx: 150:-
Paid on site to the course leader.

Sew and decorate in leather

Täpp Lars Arnesson from Malung is a leather tailor, farmer and writer. For many years, he has held courses in fur sewing, among other things, when he is not sewing furs for all the Nordic folk costumes. He himself is trained by his grandmother and grandfather in the craft of sewing in leather and fur.

During the workshop, you can try sewing leather by hand and making decorations. There are fine details to be inspired by, among other things, Malung's leather bracs. It can be a key ring, or a bookmark.

Material cost: Approx: 150:-
Paid on site to the course leader.

Embroider folk monograms

In this workshop, we let the folk embroideries inspire your own personal monogram that you can embroider on your clothes and other possessions.

We look at alphabets, numbers and symbols taken from the folk tradition. With the help of squared paper and pencil, you compose your monogram and then embroider on the linen - and since we sew in the traditional way, you can start with a knot and jump on the back!

Material cost: Approx: 150:-
Paid on site to the course leader.

Sling, sling, weave - ribbons and cords in different ways

In this workshop we delve into some different cord and ribbon techniques and you get to try a variety of ways to make ribbons and cords.

We get to know gates and trays, forks and cones. We take a look at various cords and ribbons that appear in the history of the costumes and take inspiration from these in our creation.

You will learn which parameters control the result and tips on how to succeed with your future cords and bands

Material cost: Approx: 150:-
Paid on site to the course leader.

Double-ended knit and decorate

In Gagnef, there are preserved two small fire extinguisher pouches which are double-ended and decorated. In these they stored fire tools, flint and snuff. During the workshop, you can try double-ended knitting and it can become a small fire extinguisher pouch or a small bag.

Karin grew up in Falun and, through her company Uppstickaren, has had numerous courses in various knitting techniques, including double-ended knitting.

Materials to bring:
Note-taking material, grid paper, scissors, sewing needle and needle to fasten thread ends with
Double pointed needles 1,5 – 2,5 mm

Material cost: Approx: 150:-
Paid on site to the course leader.

Yarn and knitting needles are available for purchase during the workshop.

Linen sewing

Do you also want to make those nice, neat, crisp wrinkles on your linen garments? Are you wondering what nuggets are or how the hell to get them nice?

Or are you just thinking about how to sew a linen garment together by hand in the most appropriate way? Which seams and stitches are good? Which thread to use? And why should the thread actually be waxed?

In this workshop we will try nugs, wrinkles and joining seams in linen but also talk about when and how they were used.

Material cost: Approx: 150:-
Paid on site to the course leader.

Sew folk mittens

A workshop where we look at folk embroidered half mittens in cloth and leather and get inspired for new ones.

We go through patterns, sewing order and different embroidery stitches. During the course, the course participant will be able to start a pair of gloves and gain the knowledge to be able to finish them himself.

Material cost: Approx: 150:-
Paid on site to the course leader.
