Why did the women of Dalarna need their own walk-in closet? How did farmers in the 1700s think a crocodile looked, and how did a small painted wooden horse become a symbol of all of Sweden? These are some of the questions answered during this tour through the museum’s most popular exhibitions. We tell the story of the people, craftsmanship, and progressive spirit that have shaped Dalarna throughout history and continue to resonate today.

On a Temporary Visit:
Anders Zorn and Carl Larsson
LF Dalarna’s Unique Art Collection

From June 1 to August 2025

The public now has the opportunity to see LF Dalarna’s unique art collection, which usually hangs at the headquarters in Falun. Most of the approximately thirty paintings are by Anders Zorn and Carl Larsson, depicting scenes from Sundborn, Mora, and Alhambra. Other works are by Olof Arborelius, Winter Carl Hansson, and more.

As more art began to be sold abroad in the 1970s, LF Dalarna took the initiative to start collecting. Former CEO Karl-Erik Liljegren explained: “The purpose of buying Dalecarlian art was not primarily to make money but rather to ‘bring home’ the province’s art.”
